Vaccines

So I was watching a documentary on vaccines today from PBS' Frontline and I must say that I was a little discouraged by it's information. It was very one sided and mainly interviewed people that stressed how much you need to get your children vaccinated. It did show a little bit of the other side of things but mainly made it out to be scared parents against Dr.'s which I feel should not be the issue at hand. The issue should be are vaccines truly safe to give to every child?

Vaccines have been linked to such things as Autism in small children and even though it is a very small percentage and rare that small percentage could be one of our children. Every child is different. Although there is little scientific evidence to back this up I do believe that it is very very possible that Autism could be linked to vaccinations especially with as many parents as there are claiming that it is without a doubt because they vaccinated their child.
Frontline interviewed Dr. Offit or better known as "Dr. Profit" who helped with the Rotavirus Vaccine and let me just tell you...something about this man just did not sit well with me. He has made million upon millions of dollars off of his vaccines so why wouldn't he be promoting his vaccine? Saying whatever he can to make you go get your child the vaccine that has made him a very rich man! When asked about the money side of it he stuttered and spewed out a half cocked answer that the money doesn't matter which is total BS it was almost as if you could taste the lie that was coming out of his mouth. Shame on Frontline for letting him slide right on by with that answer! Of course the money matters to him that's all he cares about!

They of course did not go out of their way to find any medical professionals that agree with holding off on some or all vaccines which I found very frustrating. They did have Jenny McCarthy who is like the poster child for Generation Rescue (an organization against vaccines and information on Autism) Jenny McCarthy has a son who she feels got Autism after giving the MMR vaccine as many other parents also feel but of course they fired shots at her because she is a former playboy bunny so that must mean she in uneducated. What I saw was a woman who is fighting for what she believes in and is trying to help parents to see that it is okay to question whether or not to give their child an immunization. I feel as though society looks down on you if you chose to question vaccinations.

 You see I have opted not to give my baby girl her shots yet because I feel like she needs a chance to build her own immune system out in this big world before we start shooting her up with dead viruses and all kinds of other things that are in shots like mercury and formaldehyde. I have felt really good about the decisions I have made thus far with her immunizations but now the time is coming when I'm thinking about when to start the school mandated ones so she may go to public school. She will need the MMR which I am scared to death to give her. I know its very rare for something bad to happen but the fact is that it DOES happen.

I have a Dr.'s appointment coming up soon for my daughter and I am dreading it because I know the Dr is going to want to give all kinds of vaccines but I just don't know if I'm ready for that yet or not......my daughter is my world and if anything happened to her if I did or didn't give her the shots I would never forgive myself. So I am just going to have to go with my gut as I have so far and everything will happen exactly the way its meant to be.

I would like to hear what others think on this topic though. I think it is very interesting and very controversial which is exactly my cup of tea =) Thanks for listening and God bless.
